Heiko Bressnik transforms his subject matter into his painting medium, thus literally, in this case, using a skull as his subject and his working material. Bressnik crushed and powdered a skull given to him by a friend, from which he then made pigment. The face behind the surface becomes almost tangible. In his work he reflects the uncertainty of a border between physical perishability and the virtual beyond, where we live on forever.
